Sempera Organics, a supplier of California-grown mushroom extracts, powders, and blends, has received cGMP certification as well as SQF Level 2 certification.
“As a manufacturer of dietary supplements and food ingredients, we have to comply with local, state, and federal regulation,” said Nirmal Nair, CEO and founder of Sempera Organics. “So, being certified to the SQF standard shows a higher commitment to food safety and quality, and consumers are demanding this superior level of quality.”
SQF is a program benchmarked by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), which aims to standardize and globalize food safety standards. GFSI strives to keep up with standards based on food safety trends and common issues in the industry.
Sempera Organics received an SQF audit score of 91 out of 100 for GFSI’s Food Safety Program, formerly known as Level 2. A score of 70-85 nets a rating of “complies,” 86-95 constitutes a rating of “good,” and 96-100 constitutes a rating of “excellent.”
“Falling into the higher side of ‘good’ is exceptional for us as such a young company, not even two years old,” said Nair.
Retailers rely upon SQF certification for proof of high standards, Nair noted, which can open up doors for brand partnerships as more retailers require manufacturers and suppliers to obtain GFSI certifications to do business. “Retailers and customers worldwide are seeing a need for global consistency in food safety standards and that GFSI helps to ensure that consistency is met,” Nair said.
Additionally, Sempera Organics was found to be in compliance with GMP Requirements for Dietary Supplements (21 CFR 111), per an audit.
