GC Rieber VivoMega, a global supplier of omega-3 concentrates, broke ground on its five-year, $75 million investment plan as a part of its new manufacturing facility.
The Norwegian manufacturer also added three new stainless steel fish oil tanks to its facility, each with the capacity to hold 2,800 cubic meters or just under 740,000 pounds. The nearly 70-foot-tall structures were shipped directly to the company’s dock, allowing it to store 35,000 U.S. tons of fish oil within its facility.
“This facility and tank expansion makes us one of the world's largest fish oil manufacturing and storage facilities. It doubles the output of our high-end omega-3s EPA and DHA,” said Ståle Søfting, sales and marketing director at GC Rieber VivoMega. "We are thrilled to complete these first steps, which will help us adjust to current supply chain challenges and meet our customers' ongoing needs."
The expanded facility is expected to be operational in early 2024, and it will utilize some existing infrastructure including docks, tanks, laboratories, and energy, and only build what is necessary. The next step for the company will be to update its technology platform on its existing manufacturing plants.
