The Natural and Non-Prescription Health Products Directive of Health Canada recently reviewed and approved a hair thickness claim for Biova’s BiovaBIO supplement, the company recently announced.
The popularity of nutricosmetics has been accelerating, and while the Asia Pacific market is the largest market for beauty supplements, the North American market is the fastest-growing, Biova reports. With a growing elderly population worldwide, products that can help offset undesirable effects of aging, such as hair thinning, are appealing to a growing consumer base in the healthy aging category.
Biova is looking to capture a portion of this product category growth with its new hair thickness claim. While many beauty supplements focus on skin and high doses of collagen, Biova has bolstered its hair claims while the product also provides support for healthy skin function, the company said. BiovaBIO is a water-soluble egg membrane ingredient, and a study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology concludes that supplementation with 450 mg of the ingredient may result in improvement in both the appearance of crow’s feet at 4 weeks and skin tone after 8 weeks.
“We look forward to offering our customers new ways to support their anti-aging regimen with new products and will continue our commitment to ongoing research on our foundational ingredients,” Pat Schneider, Biova’s CEO, said.
