FrieslandCampina Ingredients, a prebiotic ingredient supplier and developer, and Lallemand Health Solutions, a researcher, developer, and producer of probiotic yeast and bacteria, recently announced a partnership in which the companies will launch two new gut health concepts.
The products, PRO-Digest Health Shot and PRO-Digest Bowel Support, bring together prebiotic and probiotic ingredients into single concepts that will enable companies to formulate enhanced gut health products.
The partnership is a direct response to growing demand for effective and scientifically-backed gut health solutions, the companies said. Citing data from FMCG Gurus, the companies report that 25% of global consumers have digestive health complaints, and almost half find products for improving digestive health appealing. Additionally, almost two thirds of consumers recognize a link between digestive and overall health, the companies report. Additionally, the combination of pre- and probiotic ingredients into single formulations is growing in popularity among product developers, the two companies said.
Both of the formulation concepts contain 5 grams of FrieslandCampina’s Biotis GOS prebiotic ingredient. Biotis GOS is clinically supported to increase levels of Bifidobacteria in the gut of healthy adults, and is linked to benefits in gut discomfort, constipation, and improving other GI symptoms, along with self-reported symptoms of anxiety and overall mental wellbeing.
The PRO-Digest Health Shot combines Biotis GOS with 5 billion CFU per serving of Lallemand Health Solutions’ B. lactis LAFTI B94. B. which has been clinically-evidenced to support healthy microflora by feeding probiotic bacteria, reinforcing gut barrier integrity, and relieving abdominal discomfort such as occasional constipation.
PRO-Digest Bowel Support has been specifically designed to alleviate digestive discomfort and improve day-to-day symptoms of consumers with digestive issues. The formulation contains 10 billion CFU of L. paracasei HA-196, which has been clinically-evidenced to improve quality of life in adults with IBS-like symptoms, helping with bowel frequency in occasional diarrhea and/or constipation.
