The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) a trade association representing the dietary supplements and functional foods industry, announced that Brian Wommack, CRN’s senior vice president, has been appointed to executive director of the CRN Foundation, the organization’s nonprofit arm.
As executive director, he will lead the Foundation in its new strategic plan to prioritize access to nutritional products and education, which includes the Access Task Force created by CRN’s board of directors to find ways to increase access.
“Brian was the natural choice to lead this part of CRN’s mission, given his leadership in other aspects of service to CRN’s mission and members,” Steve Mister, CRN president and CEO, and member of the board of directors, said. “CRN’s Board recognizes that the industry can play a critical role in addressing disparities in healthcare and nutrition, and Brian has the talents and vision to lead this initiative.”
“A large percentage of the population doesn’t have access to nutrient-dense food,” Wommack said. “Accepting a role to help solve these problems was a no-brainer.”
The Access Task Force will be led by industry expert Micah Osborne, president of Stratum Nutrition. Its objectives will be to “define and explore opportunities surrounding accessibility, leverage the CRN Foundation for ways to achieve access goals through its 501(c)(3) charitable status, and enhance member experience and engagement through doing good works,” CRN said.
CRN plans to launch a new multi-year initiative aimed at increasing access to dietary supplements, as well as information about the connections between supplements and functional foods and improvements in nutrition and health.
“CRN members don’t just want to do business,” Wommack said. “They want to help people live better lives and have better nutrition. I look forward to helping our members bring their vision to fruition.”
