Elderberry ingredients supplier INS farms recently announced its latest Elderberry Seed Oil ingredient, which is available to formulators in both certified organic and conventional options.
INS Farms’ Elderberry Seed Oil is cold-pressed and filtered without chemicals or additives, providing a clean, minimally processed ingredient, Devon Bennett, co-owner of INS Farms, said. “We’ve tested our Elderberry Seed Oil for its fatty acid and antioxidant properties as well, and found that it is made up of more than 95% fatty acids, with a 1:1 ratio of omega-3s and omega-6s and over 20% omega-9 oleic acid,” he said.
Elderberry Seed Oil also contains a significant amount of tocotrienols, tocopherols, and sterols. It also contains beta-sitosterol, which is linked to supporting prostate health, Bennett said. “These characteristics make Elderberry Seed Oil appealing for both nutraceutical and cosmeceutical products.”
For nutraceutical use, this gold-colored oil is high in antioxidants and other essential nutrients, with a neutral flavor, no aftertaste, and high oxidative stability. For cosmeceutical use, Elderberry Seed Oil’s high fatty acid content is formulated to help protect and re-establish the protective lipid barrier of the skin, subdue breakouts, and minimize signs of aging, INS Farms said.
Bennett said that the use of cold-pressed extraction without added coloring agents, preservatives, or fillers helps retain Elderberry Seed Oil’s unique and potent composition. It can be blended well with vitamin D and other fatty acid oils, including CoQ10, fish and krill oils, and phosphatidylserine, he added.
