Naturex has published its annual “Pathfinder”sustainability report, explaining how the company is meeting environmental goals through economically viable models. Built on the four pillars of Sourcing, Operations, People, and Innovation, the Pathfinder program explores new avenues for sustainability without applying a rigid model.
As a provider of plant-based ingredients, responsible sourcing is at the heart of Naturex’s Pathfinder program, and it’s an area where the company has seen marked successes on the environmental, economical and social fronts.By signing annual contracts with its growers, Naturex has been instrumental in developing good agricultural practices among its suppliers. Naturex’s agronomists monitor cultivations year round, giving feedback and advice on how best to manage crops. “It’s a win-win situation for both Naturex and suppliers: we get higher quality raw materials, our growers benefit both economically and professionally, all while minimizing environmental impact,” said Serge Sabrier, president of Naturex’s sustainability committee and chief procurement officer.
Recognizing that the greatest asset of any company is its people, Naturex put a particular emphasis on increasing employee involvement on safety issues. The company implemented numerous new safety initiatives throughout the year and launched its first worldwide safety days in the fall of 2015. Involving 32 sites in 22 countries, the day included educational and fun activities designed to encourage and give employees the necessary tools to take responsibility for their own safety and for the safety of others.
The last section of the report highlights the work of the company’s foundation. Ensuring a sustainable future means giving back to local communities in order to develop economic viability through education, support physical health, and preserve the environment. Targeting these areas, the Naturex Foundation is currently funding 11 projects around the world, in countries where the company operates. One of the newer projects takes place near the Naturex factory in India and will provide learning support and social integration for 500 children through sports and education.
