TriNutra, the supplier of a premium USP black seed oil called ThymoQuin, received a U.S. patent for compositions comprising ThymoQuin and astaxanthin.

The patent protects compositions that combine ThymoQuin with astaxanthin and other biologically active compounds. The patent reflects that the combination exhibits synergistic biological activity, meaning that there is greater efficacy when the two ingredients are combined compared to the sum of their parts when taken individually.

Thymoquinone and p-cymene are key bioactive compounds in Nigella sativa (black seed) oil and are unstable in the presence of oxidants like free fatty acids, reducing their potency and stability. TriNutra sought to develop technologies that could standardize, stabilize, and maintain the natural balance of the bioactive compounds.

“Our unique formulation approach continues to demonstrate that the composition of black seed oil’s bioactives matters significantly,” said Morris Zelkha, CEO. “ThymoQuin has brought innovation to this ancient ingredient with several published clinical trials on its health benefits and composition-dependent efficacy, and numerous global patents back it for its composition, stability, bioavailability, and use. We are incredibly proud of yet another achievement for ThymoQuin and its potential in health and wellness.”

TriNutra’s published research, which initiated the patent, shows that pairing ThymoQuin with astaxanthin has a synergistic effect, potentiating astaxanthin’s activity effecting inflammatory response and antioxidant protection.
