Sabinsa has opened its eighth manufacturing facility at Hassan in the state of Karnataka, India. The facility was inaugurated by Dr. Muhammed Majeed, chairman and founder of parent company Sami-Sabinsa Group, along with other senior executives.

The facility was built with an investment of $18 million, and can produce 88 tons of active nutraceutical ingredients (ANI) and active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) per year for the global market. The facility’s Unit 1 will produce 23 active ANIs and APIs, as well as intermediates, including: calebin-A; resveratrol; SabiWhite; Pterostilbene; Cosmoperine; 1, 2 Hexanediol; 1, 2-Octanediol; Diindolylmethane; Indole-2-Carbinol; Cosmoperine; and Urolithins.

The facility is equipped with 18 reactors, two hydrogenators, and other specialized equipment such as agitated nutsche filter dryers, centrifuges, and Rotocone Vacuum Dryers.

“This is a milestone for the Sami-Sabinsa group,” said Majeed. “With preventive healthcare gaining more prominence worldwide, Sami Sabinsa Group is gearing up with a new facility to support the wellness of mankind. Innovation and quality standards have always been the core pillars of our growth, which has mapped us globally. The Sami Nutraceuticals facility will be one of the cornerstones of our expansion strategy, enabling the company to bring more new innovations to market.”

The facility will house quality control and process development labs, and will have zero liquid discharge capability, minimizing the ecological footprint of production. The facility also has easy access to ports on the east and west coasts of India.

The new facility will create over 200 jobs both directly and indirectly. Unit 2 of the facility is nearing completion and will be built on 15 acres of land. It will house three production blocks, one of which will be for curcumin and the other two of which will be for multi-purpose herbal extracts.
