Rousselot, a Darling Ingredients brand, has announced that its Peptan collagen peptides have been granted Upcycled Certified status from Where Food Comes From (WFCF).

Upcycled Certified is the world’s only third-party certification for upcycled food. Designed to combat food waste, it recognizes products that use high-quality, safe ingredients that would otherwise go unused.

Peptan collagen peptides are sourced from bovine, porcine, and fish-derived raw materials into a bioactive ingredient through a unique enzymatic hydrolysis process for multiple health benefits.

“This certification is a testament to Peptan’s commitment to sustainability,” said Jeroen Colpaert, executive vice president, Rousselot Health & Nutrition. “Peptan is a prime example of how upcycled ingredients can be transformed into high-value, functional solutions. By choosing Peptan, brands can confidently offer products that deliver science-backed benefits, while also align with the growing consumer demand for environmentally responsible solutions.”

An Innova Market Research study found that, in 2023, 43% of consumers found upcycled products appealing, an increase from 35% the previous year, suggesting that consumer demand for upcycled and sustainable products is growing steadily.
