PLT Health Solutions announced the completion of a new human clinical study providing evidence that Serezin, a combination of Boswellia and ginger extracts, is associated with improvements to sleep quality, mood, and total sleep time. An abstract of the study has been published in Sleep.

The company will showcase the findings at Sleep 2025, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Conference, which is being held June 7-11 in Seattle. Dawna Salter-Farfan, PhD, RD, senior clinical research manager at PLT Health Solutions, will conduct a poster session on June 11 at 10:00 during the clinical sleep science and practice session.

“We are excited to present our high-impact research findings at Sleep 2025,” said Salter-Farfan. “We will be showing data demonstrating that Serezin improves sleep quality and quantity, but with a special emphasis on the improvements shown within the female-only cohort of our study. While many of us look to tracking devices to understand our sleep, these data often do not align with our experience. Waking up feeling rested, restored, and refreshed is the defining characteristic of a great night’s sleep.”

Sleep 2025 is a leading clinical and scientific meeting for sleep medicine, sleep research, and more. The meeting brings together global experts, innovators, and other types of attendees.

Study Details

The 4-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was conducted on 60 healthy men and women between the ages of 50 and 70. Subjects self-reported disturbed sleep due to everyday aches and pains. They received either 300 mg of Serezin per day or a placebo, and measurements were conducted at weeks one, two, and four.

By the end of the study, subjects self-reported a 64% greater improvement in restorative sleep than those taking placebo; a 2.6-fold greater reduction in nighttime discomfort and a 75% greater reduction in daytime discomfort than placebo; self-reported improvements in getting to sleep and sleep quality; self-reported improvements in waking up; and improved mood states in a questionnaire covering tension, depression, anger, vigor, fatigue, and confusion.

“Cognitive health is an intense area of interest and innovation at PLT today, with a broad portfolio that addresses cognitive performance, mental energy, stress, mood, sleep, and relaxation. We have active clinical programs supporting all of these consumer needs,” said Steve Fink, vice president of marketing at PLT. “Serezin is an exciting ingredient in the sleep space because it features a different approach to promoting restorative sleep than many of the ingredients on the market today. We feel that this study can help consumer product companies develop compelling, trustworthy messaging for a new generation of sleep support products.”
