Verisol, a collagen peptide manufactured by Gelita, exhibited beneficial effects on skin health in a recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. The findings were published in Cosmetics.

Previous research has found that the ingredient was linked to reduced wrinkles and improved skin elasticity, while the present study also found that supplementation was associated with skin hydration.

The latest study, in which 66 women took either Verisol or a placebo for eight weeks, found that the ingredient was capable of supporting significantly greater measures of skin hydration by week four, while elasticity and hydration were even more pronounced by the end of the treatment period.

Experiments with human skin cells provided evidence that Verisol has an effect on the skin’s extracellular matrix, promoting the production of collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, and proteoglycans. The stimulatory effect on the skin’s extracellular matrix provides a plausible mechanism of action by which benefits are observed in clinical studies, the company noted.

The study utilized Verisol sourced from bovine sources, providing evidence that regardless of the source, the collagen peptide is efficacious, as previous studies relied on porcine-derived versions of the ingredient.

“Skin hydration is a prevailing consumer need, and Verisol now offers clinical substantiation on this parameter in addition to reduced wrinkles and increased elasticity,” said Lara Niemann, beauty category manager. “With a low 2.5-gram daily dose, Verisol provides economical cost in use, and it also boasts confirmation by seven published Verisol-specific studies. Verisol continues to change the face of beauty by setting the benchmark in scientific substantiation, clinical efficacy, and industry and consumer acceptance and confidence, propelling the beauty-from-within market forward.”

The study assures that, for those who avoid porcine ingredients due to religious practices or other reasons, bovine-derived Verisol has clinically validated benefits for skin health, the company noted.
