Fytexia’s Weight Management Ingredient Receives GRAS Status

DNF-10 ingredient can be safely applied to a range of functional food and beverage products.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a positive evaluation of GRN001033 for Fytexia DNF-10 ingredient. This DNF-10 is a yeast hydrolysate obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

The GRAS status allows DNF-10 to be used as an ingredient in food and beverage products like crackers, chips, popcorn, snack bars, meal replacements, and dry protein powders. This approval also opens the ingredient’s scope of application into functional foods as a scientifically supported ingredient targeting fat mass loss by modulation of appetite hormones.

DNF-10 has been shown to maintain the secretion of leptin, a satiety hormone secreted by fat cells. DNF-10 lowers the hypothalamic expression of the neuropeptide Y as well as downregulates ghrelin, the inner hunger promoter, from the low molecular weight peptides (<10kDa) found within DNF-10.

DNF-10 is water-soluble, heat-resistant, and recommended at a dosage of 500 mg/day for the formulation of dietary supplements and now for a large scope of functional foods, the company said.

Clinical Studies:

A daily intake of 500 mg of DNF-10 has been shown to significantly decrease the caloric intake of supplemented subjects by 200 kcal/day after the first two weeks. A total reduction of caloric intake of 600 kcal/day is seen after two months (DOI: 10.3746/pnf.2017.22.1.45). This results in significant body fat weight loss after four weeks due to the lowered intake of food. Weight loss is from a reduction in fat mass, when measured by computed tomography, rebalancing body composition of the subjects (DOI: 10.1016/j.nut.2013.02.009).
