CHPA Appoints Duffy MacKay to SVP of Dietary Supplements

MacKay’s experience includes commercial and non-profit work in research, regulation, policy development, and association leadership.

The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) announced the appointment of Douglas “Duffy” MacKay as Senior Vice President of Dietary Supplements. MacKay has over two decades of experience in the industry, including commercial and non-profit work in nutrition research, dietary supplement regulation, policy development, and association leadership.

He will lead CHPA’s cross-functional dietary supplements team and direct strategy, shape policy, and collaborate with stakeholders in the interest and for the expansion of the consumer healthcare category and CHPA membership, which includes  companies manufacturing and marketing OTC medicines, dietary supplements, and consumer medical devices.

“Duffy is an accomplished and highly-respected leader of the dietary supplements industry, and we couldn’t be more pleased he will be joining CHPA at this important time for the category and for CHPA,” Scott Melville, president and CEO of CHPA said. “Duffy has spent his career advocating for consumers, the industry, and the important and growing role that science-backed dietary supplements play in self-care. As such, there is no better person to lead CHPA’s efforts in the dietary supplements category, a key component of the association’s self-care mission, which is rooted in innovation and strong science, ethical leadership, responsible marketing, and more choices for America’s healthcare consumers.”

MacKay, a doctor of naturopathic medicine (ND), was most recently the senior vice president of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs at CV Sciences, a CBD life sciences company. Previously, he worked for a decade with the Council for Responsible Nutrition, leading the organization’s Scientific and Regulatory Affairs function. MacKay has also held various positions with supplement manufacturing and research organizations, as well as a private medical practice. He holds a number of health-related professional licenses and affiliations, and has authored or co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles in professional journals.

“I have always admired CHPA’s recognition that safety, product integrity, and industry transparency are key tenants to building trust in consumer healthcare products,” MacKay said. “These tenants align with my personal values, and I am honored for this opportunity to advance CHPA’s dietary supplements agenda. I look forward to being part of CHPA’s proven track record of advancing self-care broadly while accelerating dietary supplement priorities with surgical precision.”

MacKay’s work with CHPA will officially begin on October 18.
