Bioiberica has announced the launch of Collavant n2, a native type II collagen ingredient for joint health, in the Japanese market. The launch was made possible by partnering with local distributor Ryusendo Co., Ltd.

Bioiberica has successfully marketed pharmaceutical ingredients in Japan for 20 years; the launch of Collavant n2 is the first nutraceutical ingredient launched there by the company.

At a dose of 40 mg per day, Collavant n2 is shown to modulate the body’s immune response against endogenous type II collagen to support cartilage health.

The Japanese supplements market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 6.35% between 2026 and 2034, according to Bioiberica, citing Imarc. The joint health category in the country is anticipated to expand due to the aging population and growing interest in preventive mobility support. While the category is ripe for innovation, the strict quality, safety, and efficacy standards upheld by the Japanese Ministry for Health, Labor, and Welfare and the Consumer Affairs Agency make the market challenging to enter, even for well-established global brands, reported the company.

Collavant n2 is supported by seven scientific studies, including a recently published clinical trial showing that the standard dosage was associated with significant decreases in cross-linked C-terminal telopeptide of type II collagen (CTX-II), a byproduct of collagen destruction and a biomarker of collagen degradation. The results suggested that taking Collavant n2 could protect articular cartilage in healthy adults experiencing joint discomfort during physical activity.

To enter the Japanese market, Bioiberica had to demonstrate the scientific credentials and regulatory compliance of the ingredient, along with “long-term trust and sustained reliability that define Japanese business partnerships,” Bioiberica reported.

“The decision to partner with Bioiberica was based on our confidence in the company’s commitment to quality, scientific rigor, and transparency,” said Yoshiaki Shiojima, president and CEO of Ryusendo Co., Ltd. “As a trusted and experienced operator in Japan’s nutraceutical market, Ryusendo brings the market knowledge and industry relationships necessary to position Collavant n2 for success with local dietary supplement brands. We look forward to a productive partnership with Bioiberica based on a shared vision to support long-term health and well-being. We will also leverage Ryusendo’s accumulated experience in clinical research, Foods with Function Claims notification support, and scientific communication in Japan to further enhance the value of Collavant n2 in the Japanese market.”

“Our new partnership with Ryusendo marks a significant milestone in Bioiberica’s ongoing mission to bring science-backed, sustainably produced ingredients to health-conscious consumers around the world, and points to our broader growth ambitions across the APAC market,” said Antonio Vendrell, marketing and communications director at Bioiberica. “Bioiberica’s established reputation for circular, fully traceable production has also played an important role in bringing Collavant n2 to Japan. Meeting the country’s stringent import and quality regulations requires complete transparency across the supply chain, an area where Bioiberica’s processes are well-placed to deliver. Looking ahead, we see this agreement as the key that unlocks limitless opportunities in one of the world’s most dynamic and innovative nutraceutical markets.”
