Balchem, a global manufacturer of specialty ingredients, has renewed its sponsorship of Oregon State University’s Linus Pauling Institute (LPI), a leading nutrition science center dedicated to promoting health through research and public outreach.

The collaboration will support LPI’s micronutrient information center, a resource that develops and disseminates scientific content, with a focus on iron and epigenetic health, informing the public with science-based educational materials like videos, fact sheets, infographics, and other assets tailored to diverse learning preferences, including content in Spanish. The joint project “aims to foster greater engagement in nutrition science among emerging scientists and the wider public, expanding the reach and impact of credible nutrition education to support informed health decisions.”

Balchem and LPI will combine their expertise in areas such as biological aging, DNA methylation, and the health span, along with examining how iron deficiency, one of the most prevalent nutritional disorders worldwide, impacts health outcomes.

“Renewing our partnership with LPI reflects Balchem’s commitment to advancing nutrition science and public knowledge,” said Eric Ciappio, PhD, RD, senior manager of nutrition science at Balchem. “By combining our research on branded ingredients, such as Albion Minerals’ iron bisglycinate and Optifolin+, a choline-enriched folate supporting cellular health, with MIC’s expertise, we aim to clarify the critical role of iron bioavailability in physiological function and raise awareness of the epigenetic processes that influence gene expression and nutrient utilization. As scientific interest in these areas accelerates, providing clear, evidence-based information is essential to supporting better health outcomes.”

“We are pleased to continue our collaboration with Balchem, whose support enables us to advance our mission of promoting optimal health through rigorous research and accessible public education,” said Emily Ho, endowed chair and director of the Linus Pauling Institute. “Together, we will build on our achievements to help people everywhere to add years of health and vitality to their lives.”
