Alan Richman Dies at Age 79

Journalist frequently contributed to Nutraceuticals World and other industry publications.

Alan Richman, a frequent contributor to Nutraceuticals World and former editor/associate publisher of Whole Foods Magazine, died on March 13.
 
The son of Louis and Sonia Carity Richman, he was born in the Bronx on Nov. 12, 1939. He graduated from Hunter College where he was the editor of The Arrow, Hunter’s student newspaper. He entered the Army in 1961 and did his basic training in Ft. Dix. After serving for six months, he was called up for an additional 10 months during the Berlin crisis. He served in an MP unit in Ft. Bragg in Fayetteville, NC, where he was the editor of the post newspaper.
 
Alan coached boys and girls soccer in Marlboro Township, NJ, for 30 years and served on the soccer board. He was the editor and publisher of several trade journals and worked for a short time in public relations and advertising. He also wrote several books.
 
He received awards for his business writing and was proud to be a journalist, continuing to write after retirement. He primarily worked for the New Jersey Jewish News and other trade journals in the natural products and culinary fields. He became a poet and led poetry workshops on cruise ships. He served on the Board of Trustees of Congregation Beit Shalom, Monroe Township, NJ.
 
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kelli Richman, two sons, Lincoln and Matthew, and his four grandchildren. Donations can be made to the Autism Spectrum Education Network (ASPEN) or the American Heart Association.

We will remember him as a kind, caring individual and a dedicated editor and storyteller. He will certainly be missed by the entire natural products community and all who knew him.”
