The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has concluded that the safety of Tonalin CLA, from Cognis Nutrition & Health, LaGrange, IL, has been established for defined uses as a food ingredient. The EFSA scientific opinion marks a major step toward gaining novel food approval for Tonalin CLA in Europe. In the next and final step of the approval process, the European Commission will present a draft decision to the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health, which will make a final decision on the application.
