Compound Solutions, Escondido, CA, CEO, has donated $10,000 to the AOAC International, Gaithersburg, MD, whose CoQ10 standards committee has been chartered with adopting a globally accepted analytical standard for CoQ10. The AOAC CoQ10 standards committee has narrowed down a starting field of 15 analytical methodologies for CoQ10 to one protocol, which in turn will be validated by eight different independent laboratories before formal adoption by AOAC. The committee hopes to have this testing and final protocol completed by September 2005.

In other news, the company has reported increased interest in the antioxidant nutrient glutathione, which it says is due to both a rising amount of applications research and the diversity of health benefits scientifically documented to support human health. L-glutathione is a tripeptide composed of three amino acids (L-cysteine, glycine and L-glutamic acid). The nutrient’s presence is required to maintain the normal function of the immune system. It also acts as a powerful antioxidant against pollutants and is present in the liver in high concentrations. Product applications utilizing the potent antioxidant include multivitamin combinations, prenatal products, detoxification formulas and macular degeneration prevention supplements.
