At the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Cereal Chemists (AACC), which took place in October, AACC honored several individuals. Receiving the Carl Wilhelm Brabender Award was Jozef Kokini. Mr. Kokini is a professor of food engineering at Rutgers University, as well as chair and director of the Department of Food Science in the Center for Advanced Food Technology. The Thomas Burr Osborne Medal was given to Paul Seib of Kansas State University. Dr. Seib received his B.S. and PhD from Purdue University in chemical engineering. The AACC Excellence in Teaching Award was presented to Don Thompson. Dr. Thompson has been a member of the Food Science Department of Pennsylvania State University since 1984, serving as head of the department from 1994 to 2000. Lastly, the AACC Fellows program honors members who have made distinguished contributions to the field of cereal science and technology in research, industrial achievement, leadership, education, administration, communication or regulatory affairs. This year’s fellows included Rella Dwyer, Helmut Glattes and Chuck Walker.
