Two companies have recently received generally recognized as safe (GRAS) status for their ingredients. DMV, Veghel, The Netherlands, received GRAS status for its milk derived lactoferrin. FDA indicated it had no questions regarding DMV’s conclusion that milk derived lactoferrin is GRAS for its intended use as an ingredient in sports and functional foods. Also receiving GRAS status was Ocean Nutrition Canada, Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is the first to achieve self-affirmed GRAS status for its omega 3 concentrated 30:20 EE complex de­rived from fish oil.
