Ingredient suppliers dsm-firmenich and Indena will introduce dietary supplement concepts which combine biotics, essential nutrients, and botanical extracts in trending delivery formats with enhanced flavor at Vitafoods Europe 2024.
The new concepts mark the latest step in the companies’ partnership, targeting consumer health priorities like health from the gut, brain health, and healthy aging with easy-to-use formats like gummies and oral dispersible granules.
The companies have developed two gummies targeting gut health. The first is a gut-brain axis concept containing dsm-firmenich’s Humiome Post LB postbiotic with Relissa, a Melissa officinalis L extract made with Indena’s Phytosome technology. The second gummy supports microbiome balance by combining Humiome Post LB with CUBO, a combination of Indena’s Curcumin Phytosome and Boswellia Phytosome ingredients.
The two companies have also collaborated on brain health and healthy aging concepts.
There concepts feature essential nutrients and botanicals like Virtiva Plus, a combination of Ginkgo biloba L. extract with phosphatidylserine clinically evidenced to offer a nootropic effect; life’sOMEGA, dsm-firmenich’s algal-sourced omega-3 ingredient; Quali-B12 vitamin B12; Quercefit quercetin formulated with Indena’s Phytosome technology; and ampli-D, a vitamin D ingredient evidenced to have enhanced bioavailability.
“We are thrilled to partner with Indena to showcase these new concepts at Vitafoods,” said Francois Scheffler, head of global marketing and business development at dsm-firmenich. “By combining our strengths in science-backed biotics and essential nutrients with Indena’s expertise in botanical extracts, we are able to create next-generation dietary supplement solutions that meet the increasingly sophisticated demands of today’s health-conscious consumers, with a focus on scientific substantiation, maximum efficacy, and enhancing experiences through flavor and taste.”
“This new range represents another significant step forward in our continuous mission to promote health through nature," said Daniele Giavini, managing director at Indena. "Together with dsm-firmenich, we are committed to generating some specific high-quality, evidence-based solutions that address certain key health areas, such as health from the gut, digestive comfort, cognitive performance, and healthy aging. Our partnership will continue to ideate additional cutting-edge concepts that aim to answer market needs with highly innovative products that are scientifically studied, clinically tested and technologically advanced.”
“Novel delivery formats like gummies, gels, and powders sticks are gaining momentum with consumers looking for more enjoyable, convenient wellness, routines,” said Jerome Barra, VP of taste, global marketing, and business development at dsm-firmenich. “The new concepts demonstrate our unique taste and flavor sensorial expertise in helping customers mask ingredient off-notes and crafting flavor profiles that deliver deeper experiential connections to consumers, making it possible to address the most pressing health needs sustainably.”
