The National Advertising Division (NAD) has referred advertising for “My Low Press,” a dietary supplement marketed by Star Herbs, LLC, to the Federal Trade Commission for further review after the company declined to participate in an NAD review of its advertising claims. NAD is an investigative unit of the advertising industry’s system of self-regulation, and is administered by the Council of Better Business Bureaus.
As part of NAD’s initiative with the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) to expand the review of advertising for dietary supplements, CRN challenged several claims made by Star Herbs, particularly ones suggesting the supplement could prevent or treat high blood pressure and hypertension and associated symptoms.
NAD was concerned the challenged claims have the potential to influence consumers to forego necessary medical treatment for high blood pressure or hypertension, which could lead to serious health consequences for consumers. However, the advertiser chose not to participate in this NAD proceeding.
