The International Alliance of Dietary/Food Supplement Associations (IADSA), Brussels, Belgium, partnered with China’s State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) to host a workshop on health food regulatory trends in China. The workshop, which took place on September 24, 2012 in Beijing, brought senior officials and IADSA together to discuss the potential mechanisms of a notification system for food supplements in China. The discussions focused on global product placement rules, the status quo of the existing registration and product notification systems for health food in China, and an overview of the successes and challenges of similar initiatives across the globe.
“The workshop was an excellent opportunity for the sector and the authorities to share experiences and dialogue towards an enhanced regulatory framework,” said IADSA Board member, Michelle Stout. “The registration system in China is at present lengthy and costly, and it is widely recognized that there is a need for a more accessible system to be introduced.”
