A new study indicates that geniVida Bone Blend from DSM Nutritional Products increased bone mineral density in the hip of postmenopausal women who were loosing bone by up to 3.4% over six months.
The study was presented at the 9th International Symposium on the Role of Soy in Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention and Treatment in Washington D.C. and was conducted in collaboration with Creighton University, Omaha, NE.
For this randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study, 58 healthy, early postmenopausal women were enrolled for six months and received either geniVida Bone Blend or a placebo of calcium.
After 6 months geniVida had significantly stopped bone loss in the femoral neck and Ward’s Triangle of the hip compared to losses of 1.2% and 1.1%, respectively, in the calcium placebo. Furthermore, geniVida increased bone mineral density by 2.3% in the Ward’s Triangle for a net increase of 3.4%. For further information: www.dsm.com
