The U.S. vitamins and dietary sector proved to be a recession proof industry in 2008 and 2009, according to a market report from Euromonitor International titled “Vitamins and Dietary Supplements—USA.” While most other consumer product sectors experienced declines or slower sales growth, U.S. vitamins and dietary supplements actually exhibited its strongest growth rates since 2003, the report states. Sales of vitamins and dietary supplements actually increased in the second half of 2008, and continued to grow in the high single digits, just as the U.S. recession was gaining steam. The report offers a comprehensive guide to the size and shape of the market at a national level. It also provides the latest retail sales data (2005-2009), covering Child-Specific Vitamins and Dietary Supplements, Dietary Supplements, Tonics and Bottled Nutritive Drinks and Vitamins.
