Nutricap Labs is based in Long Island, NY, where a large chunk of the nutraceuticals industry is concentrated. Prior to starting the company in 2003, Jason Provenzano heavily researched how contract manufacturers were serving their customers in the nutraceuticals business. He came to the realization that in order to create his own company he needed to offer not only contract manufacturing, but also several additional services. “I saw that a need existed in the industry for a one-stop shop manufacturer/turnkey solution. To my knowledge, we are still the only contract manufacturer in the industry that offers manufacturing, packaging, labeling and order fulfillment, all under one roof.”
Since its inception six years ago, Mr. Provenzano claims the company has grown an astonishing 2900%, propelling them quickly to notoriety. In fact, last August Nutricap Labs was named the 42nd fastest growing company in America by Inc. Magazine. It also ranked as the 4th fastest-growing privately-held company in the NY-NJ-PA area and the 3rd fastest-growing company in the health industry.
“Due to the phenomenal growth that we’ve experienced over the past few years, we had to move our corporate headquarters to a more advanced 85,000 square-foot GMP certified facility in January 2010,” he said. “This move enabled us to accommodate a rapid expansion of staff and operations and will help us handle larger orders. We’ve also upgraded several areas of our GMP certified lab facility, so we can handle even more product runs.”
In terms of its offerings, Nutricap Labs specializes in creating tablets, capsules, liquid, powders and creams. “All products created in our laboratory are GMP certified and can be customized to meet the demands of a specific target audience (e.g., kosher, soy, gluten-free, organic, vegan, etc.),” said Mr. Provenzano. “In addition to custom formulations, all of our products are available for private labeling. We also have an in-house graphic design team that can assist customers with their packaging and label design needs, and we offer order fulfillment and drop shipping services.”
Today, Mr. Provenzano has noticed that customers aren’t using the typical channels to acquire products and services. He believes an increasing amount of them are turning toward the Internet. “We’re finding through our various web analytics tools that people are reading articles online to get information about what products are popular to manufacture. Additionally, they’re using social networking tools to do their research when they’re looking for a contract manufacturer,” he said. “Therefore, it’s been our mission over the past few years to enhance our online presence. This strategy has been working very well for us and we only expect it to get better as time goes on.”
Mr. Provenzano went on to say that many of the requests received by Nutricap Labs are coming in because potential customers are worried their current contract manufacturer might be taking advantage of them. “There are some people out there that don’t do their due diligence before they select a manufacturer and base their decision solely on pricing,” he said. “Unfortunately this misstep could cripple a company before it even enters the market or it could hurt the launch of a new product.”
Nutricap Labs is also very active on the charity front. Most recently, it partnered with The American Red Cross and donated $10,000 toward the organization’s Haiti Relief Effort. “We’re also encouraging our employees to match or beat our contribution by ‘dressing down.’ For each day that an employee dresses down, they are asked to donate $10 toward the relief effort. We also recently completed a food drive to help the Nassau County, NY, Haiti Earthquake Relief,” Mr. Provenzano explained, adding, “We’re also extremely proud of our involvement in other charities, such as Make A Wish, Vitamin Angels and Anna House.”
As for where the industry and Nutricap Labs are headed in the future, Mr. Provenzano believes the final round of GMPs are going to have a major impact. “Those manufacturers that claim to be GMP certified but are really operating out of their basement or garage are going to be exposed and will eventually be shut down. This means that there are going to be a lot of people looking to work with a manufacturer that not only offers quick turnaround times and fast product turnaround times, but also has a proven track record of formulating high quality products that exceed GMP standards,” he said. “These are the things that truly set Nutricap Labs apart from other vitamin supplement manufacturers. We may not always be the most affordable option out there, but you can rest assured that we will get your project done quickly, efficiently and at the highest level of quality.” —R.W.
