The 2008 version of the American National Standard for Dietary Supplements, from NSF International, Ann Arbor, MI, now includes new GMP requirements to ensure consistency with FDA regulations. These changes took effect June 25th for companies that employ more than 500 workers. Companies with less than 500 employees, but 20 or more, must be compliant by June 25, 2009, and businesses that employ fewer than 20 people must be compliant by June 25, 2010. The new version of NSF/ANSI Standard 173: Dietary Supplements also contains revisions to the adverse event reporting (AER) requirements that went into effect last December.
