Harvard Health Publications, Boston, MA, has introduced a new report entitled, “Vitamins and Minerals: What You Need to Know,” which offers advice in choosing the right vitamin supplement. The report, edited by Meier Stampfer, MD, PhD, professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition, Harvard School of Public Health, includes suggestions like looking for a seal of approval; considering safe levels; ignoring marketing gimmicks; not paying more for unproven extras; and paying attention to warnings on the label. Also included in the report are detailed explanations of each vitamin’s and mineral’s physiological effects; the latest recommendations on each vitamin and mineral; current research on how specific vitamins and minerals affect health; and how to create a healthy and balanced diet.
