AIDP, Inc.: A Joint Venture in Ingredients and Custom Solutions

Originally established as an exclusive representative of a vitamin C factory in 1996, AIDP, Inc., City of Industry, CA, has expanded over the years by responding to the needs of its customer base, especially the fast-growing sports nutrition sector. The company currently carries a large product line of vitamins, amino acids, minerals, sports nutrients, specialty chemicals and herbal extracts. Besides providing the latest ingredients to the nutraceuticals industry, AIDP also develops and supplies DC grades, beadlets, special meshes, coatings, low odor compositions, as well as other solutions.

Male health is one of the categories that AIDP has found success in with its herbal extract LongJaX. This proprietary product is an extract of Eurycoma longifolia Jack (ELJ), which has been consumed for years in Southeast Asia as a traditional beverage for its many healing properties, especially for its ability to improve male potency and sex drive by increasing testosterone levels—a key mail hormone for reproductive health. AIDP’s LongJaX is prepared with an exclusive solvent-free hot water process that is similar to proven traditional brewing methods.

Along with applications in male sexual health, LongJax also supports wellness and aging, and strength and conditioning. Few people are aware of testosterone’s essential role in cardiovascular health, cognitive function, insulin sensitivity and the maintenance of lean body mass and bone density. According to AIDP, at around age 30, testosterone levels begin a gradual decline throughout a male’s life. This is partially due to increased production of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), a protein that binds testosterone, making it biologically unavailable. This can result in a condition known as low testosterone syndrome, or andropause. Low testosterone syndrome is associated with reduced sexual function, increased risk of cardiovascular disease, reduced insulin sensitivity, cognitive decline, mood changes and bone loss. Lean body mass may gradually be replaced with fat, culminating in sarcopenia, an age-related condition characterized by the twin markers of obesity and diminished muscular strength.

And while a link between testosterone levels and athletic performance has not been established, the importance of test-osterone to nitrogen retention, ana-bolism, lean body mass and increased size and strength is well recognized, the company says. Interest in maximizing muscle and strength remains high in the athletic community, and ELJ may supply a safe alternative to current practices.

In a study where LongJaX was administered at 800 mg per day to human subjects, testosterone levels increased within two days and doubled in five. A second longer-term study showed 400 mg per day increased testosterone over 30% at 21 days and over 50% by day 50. PADAM (Partial Androgen Deficiency in Aging Males) and IIEF (International Index of Erectile Function) scores, two widely used indicators of male sexual health, have also both reportedly improved with ELJ supplementation. With men in the U.S. turning 50 at a rate of one every 17 seconds, the ability of LongJaX to support healthy testosterone levels may contribute to more healthy and productive lives.

Another proprietary product that AIDP distributes is Kolla2, a joint health supplement made from chicken sternum. “It is specially manufactured with a patented process (U.S. Patent #6,838,440) that produces denatured Collagen Type II chains,” said Tim Yamasaki, sales manager. “In addition, Kolla2 contains important glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), including chondroitin sulfate and hyaluronic acid.”

Extensive research has shown that Type II collagen is lost progressively, along with mucopolysaccharides, in rheumatoid and osteoarthritis patients. Osteo-arthritis is characterized by joint degeneration, loss of cartilage, alterations of subchondrial bone and damage to the extra-cellular matrix. “Taking a Kolla2 supplement, which contains all the important components of the extra-cellular matrix, may help slow down or reverse the process,” said Mr. Yamasaki. In other news, AIDP is also launching a stabilized vitamin K2 product for bone health called k2.

In order to continue producing quality products, AIDP recently hired Jennifer Gu, PhD, as research and development director. Dr. Gu received her doctorate on Genetic Determinants and Lipoprotein Metabolism of Atherosclerosis at UCLA’s College of Medicine. And as a research fellow, she worked on Heterotrimeric G-Protein Signaling Pathways at the California Institute of Technology. Dr. Gu will be responsible for developing new science-based nutraceuticals and overseeing clinical trials. —M.Z.
