Cargill Health & Food Technologies, Minneapolis, MN, has received verification from U.S. Pharmacopeia’s (USP) Ingredient Verification Program for its OptaFlex™ natural chondroitin. The USP program is a rigorous, multi-step process that includes an evaluation of GMP compliance, review of quality control documents and laboratory testing of lots for compliance with the USP monograph for chondroitin sulfate sodium.
In other news, the company has been awarded patent #6,720,020 B2 for beverage formulas supplemented with Prolisse soy protein isolates. Prolisse can be included in liquid and dry powdered beverages, allowing beverage manufacturers to meet or exceed the 6.25 grams per serving of soy protein required by FDA to make the heart health claim on the label.
