According to the latest research from Mintel International Group, Chicago, IL, the energy supplements market is expected to reach $8 billion by 2008. Sales of products marketed on an energy platform, specifically energy bars, energy drinks and liquid/powder protein drinks, grew from $2 billion in 1998 to $5 billion in 2003. Mintel also predicts that protein drinks will see incremental growth as they continue to evolve towards all-purpose lifestyle products, and move away from being strictly for athletes and dieters.
