Pharmline, Inc., has acquired the Scottish Universities Research and Reactor Centre (SURRC) pulsed photo stimulated luminescence system. The SURRC system is designed to determine if a raw material has been treated with gamma radiation. This method became the first U.K. validated method for detecting irradiated foods in 1992 and is now a EU validated method. Pharmline’s unit is the 52nd to be used since this technology became available, and is now an integral part of the company’s QC systems. Herb samples are put into disposable petri dishes and scanned with a simple screening measurement (PSL Screening), or in conjunction with a calibrated radiation source (calPSL).
