TFF: Mastering The Art Of Flavors For Nutraceuticals
Founded in 1989, Technology Flavors & Fragrances (TFF), Inc., Amityville, NY, combines an international sphere of expertise, service, value and innovation in the flavors and fragrance industries. The company’s flavors and fragrances are used in more than 1500 products and are sold in over 35 countries. The industries TFF serves include beverages, sweets, bakery, meat and poultry, dairy, personal care and household products.
Commenting on TFF’s success in the flavors and fragrance industries was Brad Beckerman, director of marketing and account executive. “The foundation for our success lies in over 30 year’s experience within our management and research and development teams,” he said. “TFF provides tailor-made flavors and has the capabilities to develop products from the ground up, whether in our beverage, meat or food laboratory.”
In January 2003, TFF launched a new Health & Nutrition campaign focused on designing specialized masking flavors and providing the necessary technology for the growing functional food and beverage industry. The motivation behind the creation of the Health & Nutrition Division, according to the company, was the changing lifestyles of people all over the world.
Mr. Beckerman went into further detail concerning the creation of the new division. “Eighty-one percent of today’s shoppers choose foods or beverages that have health benefits, which they consider to be important, such as calcium, vitamins or antioxidants,” he said. “Also, 58% of American consumers believe that exercise is important and they actively seek information about nutrition. In addition, the sale of nutraceuticals increases 25% each year, and between 1997 and 2001, sales of fortified foods and beverages more than tripled. It is abundantly clear that the food and beverage industry is changing and so are we.”
TFF offers clients the necessary expertise to create unique nutraceutical products with great taste. The company’s applications team can work with a customer’s existing product and improve both its taste and aroma, or the company will work with customers to develop products, such as an antioxidant drink or energy bar with appealing flavors.
Recently, TFF was approved by Quality Assurance International (QAI) to begin manufacturing organic flavors. Mr. Beckerman discussed recent development at the company. “We are pleased to announce that we can offer a complete listing of 95%, as well as 100% certified organic flavors,” he said. “We see that the strong relationship between health and nutrition and organic continues to grow as a result.”
Looking ahead, Mr. Beckerman said, “We understand that consumers want products that give them a healthy additive but will not sacrifice taste. TFF wants to be among the first flavor companies to define its mission as a creator and manufacturer of flavors for the world of nutraceuticals.”—T.W.
