Amino GmbH, Frellstedt, Germany, and SA Bioproducts, Durban, South Africa, have formed a joint venture named Amino Bioproducts (AMBIO) to develop and produce specialty amino acids for the global marketplace. Under the terms of the agreement, SA Bioproducts will allocate part of its fermentation and downstream processing capacity for specialty amino acids and will be responsible for the marketing of products to the animal nutrition market. Amino will add all the technical steps necessary to develop and market final products for the pharmaceutical and nutrition markets, including purification, quality control and assurance and all appropriate documentation. AMBIO will be operated as an inter-company division, in effect consolidating the major R&D efforts of both principals in one division. In addition, Amino and SA Bioproducts will act as contract manufacturers on behalf of the joint venture and AMBIO’s global sales effort will be supported by the sales forces and distribution partners of each joint venture partner.
