Regal Trade & Consult, LLC, Wisconsin Rapids, WI, was established in 2001 as the exclusive sales, marketing and consulting agency for Northern Lights Food Processing, LLC, Ne­koosa, WI. In July 2002, Regal relocated its sales and marketing offices to Hoboken, NJ, to better service its customers in both the nutritional and personal care industries. The mutual goal of the companies is to maximize the therapeutic properties of fruit and provide nutritional industries with functional and marketable ingredients and services.

Regal’s portfolio of pro­ducts include a line of fruit oils, fruit protein, fruit fibers and antioxidant concentrates. Specifically, the company offers cranberry seed oil, red raspberry seed oil, black raspberry seed oil, evergreen blackberry oil, cranberry protein powder, cranberry flour, raspberry flour, cranberry seed extract and ellagic acid extract, which are all manufactured without oxygen, enzymes or extraction solvents at the Northern Lights cold-process extraction facility. Aside from bulk ingredients, Regal also offers custom brightstock packages and product development services.

Explaining the nutritional profiles of its products in more detail was Gregory Drew, director of sales and marketing. “There are dozens of vegetable and nut oils available,” he explained, adding, “but none of them come close to possessing the nutritional profiles of our fruit oils. For example, cranberry seed oil contains not only superior unsaturated and essential fatty acid profiles, including omega 3,6 and 9, but it also possesses unprecedented concentrations of naturally occurring beta-sitosterol, phosphatidylcholine and toco­trienols.” According to Mr. Drew, its cranberry seed oil contains more than double the amount of toco­trienols than palm oil and rice bran oil, which were, until now, the only two commercial sources of natural toco­trienols. Regal Trade’s fruit oils also contain high concentrations of mixed tocopherols, carotenoids and polyphenols.

Commenting on potential growth in the market for fruit oils and extracts, Mr. Drew said, “I believe we have already influenced the future of global nutritional markets,” he said. “Every week people in this industry tell me they never knew fruit had protein or that they could get 35% omega 3 fatty acids from fruit. We supply commercial quantities of these materials, as well as high phenolic, deep pigment extracts, including anthocyanin and ellagic acid.”

Regal Trade’s nutritional products are applicable to functional and medical foods as well as beverages, tablets, capsules, soft gels, nutrition bars and most dietary supplement products. “Un­like many products in the nutraceutical industry that strive for consumer awareness and acceptance, cranberry, raspberry and blackberry products carry little to no learning curve,” stated Mr. Drew. “E­very­­one has heard of these fruits and have probably consumed them in one form or another. What we do is avoid the negatives like the sugars and concentrate the positives like proteins, essential fatty acids, antioxidants, phytosterols and phospholipids.
