MB-Holding: Evolving Into ‘The Nature Network’
The newly established MB-Holding, Vestenbergsgreuth, Germany, sees itself as the parent company of a global group of companies called “the nature network.” According to the company, this new slogan stands for guaranteed access to global resources for everything related to plants.
Adolf Wedel, one of the five managing directors of MB-Holding, explained the reasons behind the change. “Our 72-year history of success in herbal and fruit tea production is intimately associated with the name Martin Bauer and we are very proud of this fact,” he said. “In the meantime, however, we have significantly expanded our role in the market, and we now provide raw plant-based materials and extracts to the international food industry, pharmaceutical companies and the cosmetic industry.” Currently, under the umbrella of MB-Holding more than 30 international firms collaborate in ‘the nature network.’”
At the heart of the network is MB-Holding’s scientific expertise. MB-Holding scientists work around the world researching and developing product innovations for herbs, fruits and extracts for teas, functional foods and nutritional supplements as well as new plant-based pharmaceuticals. The group guarantees a consistently high level of quality and assures solid customer support for the more than 200 medicinal herbs and raw plant-based materials it supplies. Managing director Helmut Hack explained the company’s positive developments. “Our cooperation in areas of core competency is the key to MB-Holding’s success in the field of raw, plant-based materials,” he said.
From the headquarters in Vestenbergsgreuth, the two companies, Martin Bauer GmbH and Co. KG and Plantextrakt GmbH & Co. KG, coordinate the efforts of their worldwide subsidiaries and branch offices in the sectors of herbal and fruit teas, raw plant-based materials and extracts. The local full-service Phytolab GmbH & Co. KG specializes in providing comprehensive services for plant-based drugs for clients within and outside the nature network. Also close by in Andernach is the fourth cog in this entrepreneurial wheel, Finzelberg GmbH & Co. KG, which has been providing plant-based extracts and nutritional supplements to the pharmaceutical industry since 1986.
The Finzelberg arm of MB-Holding offers more than 700 different types of extracts. It became involved in the nutraceuticals area through a desire to provide consumers with safe products to support health and well-being, reduce health risk factors and ultimately contribute to a healthier society.
Most recently Finzelberg together with its alliance partner Penwest, Patterson, NY, launched RediRun TM DC herbal formulations. This innovation creates novel high potency extract combinations that are far smaller in dosage form and are much more convenient for the consumer. Further, the company recently restructured its U.S. sales organization in order to be more focused toward the nutraceuticals industry. MB North America, Torrance, CA, is headed up by Volker Wypyszyk. According to the company, this operation will support Finzelberg’s mission to position itself in the U.S. as the innovation partner for the dietary supplement and nutraceutical industry.—R.M.
