Biopolymer Engineering Acquires Beta Glucan Patents, Opens New Facility
Biopolymer Engineering, Eagan, MN, has completed its acquisition of more than 100 U.S. and international patents relating to soluble and insoluble beta 1,3 glucans from The Collaborative Group, Stony Brook, NY. The acquisition, along with the company’s existing patents, provides Biopolymer Engineering with a significant intellectual property position relating to yeast beta glucan. These patents cover composition, manufacturing and applications in pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements, cosmetics and pet foods.
In other news, the company has unveiled a new production facility to produce glucosamine and other specialty polymers. The new plant began producing glucosamine and chitosan beginning in early 2002.
