Improve USA: Offering The Best Of Both Worlds In Aloe
From its beginning in 1995 with one dehydrated aloe powder to its current product range of aloe powders, gels and liquids, Improve USA, DeSoto, TX, has emerged as a player on the aloe scene. The company began with one unique dehydrated powder that retains the large complex carbohydrate components in the leaf for nutraceutical applications, said Bill Pine, vice president-sales. “The way the product is processed is proprietary,” he said, “and allows us to maintain the molecular weight above one million daltons, the size that activates the macrophage within the body. This,” he explained, “is the first line of immune defense.” The product is sold under the Mannaceutical name.
In addition, Improve USA also manufactures liquids and liquid concentrates from the inner “filet” as well as the whole leaf. Sixteen of its products are certified by the International Aloe Sciences Council and all the liquid gel concentrates are Kosher certified. “Our goal,” said Mr. Pine, “is to be a one-stop shopping source for aloe products. We can handle requests from the dietary supplement, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and beverage industries,” he said.
Improve USA grows its own aloe and processes it at two facilities in the Jaumave Valley in Mexico. According to Mr. Pine, growing conditions are ideal in this area, which is ringed with mountains and has natural volcanic soil and clear streams running through it. In addition, all of the fields in the area are certified organically-grown.
Although aloe is Improve USA’s primary business, the company is also involved in the supply of nopal powder, also known as prickly pear cactus. Known as the poor man’s insulin in Mexico, according to Mr. Pine, the ingredient also has application as a weight loss product in the U.S.
In summary, Mr. Pine said, “We are a small company with strong experience. It is our goal to marry our traditional aloe capabilities with the nutraceutical products that contain the large polymannans. We are big enough to handle the large accounts but small enough to provide personalized service.” —E.S.
