A new study conducted by researchers at the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest University, funded by the National Cancer Institute, has found that the nutritional supplement, ArginMax for Women, can have a positive impact on cancer survivors’ quality of life. ArginMax, produced by the Hawaii-based Daily Wellness Company, is a dietary supplement combining ginseng, ginkgo, L-arginine and 14 vitamins and minerals aimed at boosting energy and circulation and optimizing hormonal balance. Researchers recruited 186 female cancer patients at least six months out of active treatment with no current evidence of cancer. In a standard double-blind placebo-controlled trial, researchers looked for changes in sexual function in the females taking ArginMax, but found improvement in quality of life and overall well-being
“Our original study at Stanford published in 2001 showed that women who took ArginMax had an improvement of about 70% in sexual desire and in sexual function. Recently, the Wake Forest study examined cancer survivors and showed that there was a small improvement in sexual function — but a major improvement in quality of life,” says Mary Lake Polan M.D., PhD, MPH, professor and chair emerita of OB-Gyn at Stanford University School of Medicine, adjunct professor of OB-Gyn Columbia University.
