GanedenBC30 (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086) from Ganeden Biotech, Cleveland, OH, is now approved by the COFEPRIS (Comisión Federal para la Protección contra Riesgos Sanitarios: Federal Commission for Protection Against Health Risks). This means that GanedenBC30’s digestive and immune benefits will now be obtainable in Mexico as an ingredient for food and beverage enrichment.
"There are many opportunities in Mexico for a probiotic such as GanedenBC30,” said Laura Colin, Latin America business development manager of Ganeden Biotech. “Mexico’s government has instituted a number of health initiatives to promote better education regarding proper nutrition and healthier eating habits. The sale of junk food has been banned from schools, and television advertising of high-calorie foods and high sugar content beverages has been restricted to specific hours. Mexicans are becoming increasingly health conscious and are interested in functional foods and beverages,” added Ms. Colin. “Probiotics are currently used in many dairy products throughout Mexico, but the product options with GanedenBC30 are virtually limitless. We are very excited to offer GanedenBC30 to the Mexican population and provide them with access to innovative food products that deliver digestive and immune support.”
“Mexico is a significant market within Latin America, where the population is already familiar with the benefits of probiotics”, says Mike Bush, senior vice president of Ganeden Biotech. “The recently issued health initiatives provide a great deal of opportunity for probiotic innovation within the Mexican functional food and beverage industries; and we are eager to introduce the unique formulating capabilities of GanedenBC30.”
