Biofortis, the clinical nutrition research arm of Merieux NutriSciences, is has appointed DeAnn Liska, PhD, as senior director of nutrition & scientific affairs. Dr. Liska's team provides scientific leadership and study direction for all clinical research activities at the Illinois-based laboratory. Her team also consults and performs systematic reviews for the food and dietary supplement industry.
An acknowledged expert on some of today's hottest nutrition topics, Dr. Liska was a highly sought after speaker at several leading conferences this year. During the 3rd International Vitamin Conference held in Washington, DC, she spoke on "Considerations for Vitamin Intake & Biomarker Assessments in Interpreting Data from Clinical Trials." This conference is organized by the National Institutes of Health Office of Dietary Supplements and the National Institute of Standards and Technology in order to further scientific development within the vitamin industry. Dr. Liska also presented her perspective on “FDA Proposed Nutrition Labeling Changes: What They Mean to the Food Industry, Analytical Community and the Consumer" at the Midwest AOAC INTERNATIONAL Meeting in Oak Brook, IL. Her comments, focused to the food industry, reviewed the proposed changes and subsequent analytical and labeling challenges.
Recently, she delivered a talk at the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) Global Summit in Montreal. Her topic, sponsored by International Life Sciences Institute, addressed "Partially Hydrogenated Oils & Risk: Assessing the Scientific Evidence".
Dr. Liska began her career at the University of Washington, teaching in the Department of Biochemistry, but has nearly twenty years in scientific leadership roles within the dietary supplement and food industries. Most recently, she was a senior director for nutrition at The Kellogg Company. Dr. Liska joined the Biofortis team in late 2013.
