Private label producer of omega-3 nutritional supplements, Marine Ingredients, Mount Bethel, PA, has reached an agreement with Pharma Marine AS of Norway, to exclusively produce sustainable, high DHA Calamarine based supplements in North America. Calamarine omega-3 ingredients are made from the trimmings of human food-grade squid, or calamari.
According to Todd Parker, vice president of business development at Marine Ingredients, “Calamarine omega-3 offers our customers key advantages; for example these ingredients are supply chain secure, and offer high DHA levels similar to tuna but from a more sustainable, ecofriendly source.” Emphasizing the benefits of offering proprietary ingredients, Mr. Parker continued, “Another substantial benefit for our customers is that unique, exclusive ingredients allow us to create formulas that we can protect from competition.”
While many global fisheries are under severe pressure, global calamari stocks are robust, Marine Ingredients noted. Commenting on this, Mr. Parker stated, “We are proud to offer the North American market a truly sustainable marine source of high DHA omega-3. Calamarine is a healthy option for consumers and a positive choice for the marine ecosystem.”
