Health E-Insights:Why did you decide to get into health radio?
Mr. Burke:I have always had the gift of gab. I loved speaking in front of groups and doing radio was an easy fit for me. I think the reason I have been so lucky to be good at it, and enjoy it for all of these years is that the topic is very important to me. Allowing people to have choices, learn alternatives and compliments, and be reminded every day that they deserve to feel incredible and have an amazing quality of life keeps me going strong.
Health E-Insights:How does it feel to be recognized by the Nevada Broadcasting Hall of Fame?
Mr. Burke:I was deeply honored and surprised, and at the same time grateful for being recognized by this wonderful organization for doing something I love to do every day of my life.
Health E-Insights:What is your proudest career moment?
Mr. Burke:Everyday getting thank you emails and notes is rewarding. Having people stop me on the street or at an event and thanking me is also amazing. My proudest moment would be being asked to be a guest speaker at the NPA Las Vegas MarketPlace and having that chance to once again do what I love, on a large scale in front of many of my mentors and peers.
Health E-Insights:If you could interview anyone famous, who would it be?
Mr. Burke:I think it would be filmmaker and producer Steven Spielberg. The reason is I am amazed by people who have such creativity and talent who take risks and have the follow through to take those ideas through their journey to make them a reality. I am drawn to inventors and artists, as they have strived to achieve a way to combine dreams and the process to make them available outside their heads and hearts. At the same time they seem to be living a creative full life that many of us wish we had the bravery to do, while tackling mountains of obstacles. This motivates me.
Health E-Insights:Has social media changed the way you broadcast?
Mr. Burke:Wow. Where do I begin. When I started on the air we had records during the breaks. We then went to eight tracks, cassettes, and mp3s, while today everything is computerized. I had to wait to see people in person for responses, or see them in person to determine how they were doing on their healthy journey. Today, I have question and answer shows where I get emails, instant messages, and Facebook and Twitter posts during my show. I love the technology, and when used correctly it allows me to touch a larger portion of the world one gigabyte at a time.
Health E-Insights:Of all your talents and successes what do you want to be remembered for?
Mr. Burke:I guess that I was never afraid to learn about a new formula, or company, or a new technique that was available to my listeners. And that I always kept things upbeat, even during tough to deal with topics, and always went out of my way to provide every alternative compliment and second opinion I could find to offer every chance at a better outcome.
