Gadot Biochemical Industries has launched a calcium and magnesium citrate blend designed for menopausal women, called Cal2Mag.
“By about 2025, about 1.1 billion women globally will be menopausal, according to a study in Menopause, creating a greater need for calcium and magnesium products that can be consumed daily,” the company reported. “As women age, their needs for the right amounts of calcium and magnesium become more important, as these are essential minerals for maintaining strong bones and overall well-being. Women in the menopause stage are at an increased risk of osteoporosis and other bone-related issues, making calcium and magnesium supplementation vital.”
Gadot introduced an ingredient featuring an optimized ratio of calcium and magnesium, for optimal absorption and benefit in menopausal women. According to Michael Paikin, chief technologist at the company, there were few studies investigating the ratios of these two minerals, and minimal evidence to work with to establish a reference range.
A 2021 study found that benefits in reducing the risk of severe health conditions were achieved with a calcium:magnesium ratio between 1.70 and 2.60. Cal2Mag was designed with a ratio to support bone density, maintain healthy muscle contractions, and support heart health.
“The citrate form of magnesium in Cal2Mag ensures superior absorption, independent of stomach acid levels, and can be taken with or without meals. This form also reduces the risk of kidney stones, a common concern with other forms of calcium supplements,” said Paikin.
Cal2Mag is suitable for nutraceuticals and functional foods including baked goods and beverages.
