Supplementing with a mango extract marketed as Stadice by Zeus Hygia was associated with improvements in multiple measures of cognitive function, according to a new clinical study appearing in Cureus.
The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was conducted with 60 healthy subjects between the ages of 18 and 45 who regularly played virtual, mobile, or computer games.
Participants took 300 mg of Stadice or a placebo daily for seven days, and were assessed with multiple cognitive ability tests. Over the course of the week, the authors of the study noted significant improvements in measures of mental speed, attention, working memory, response inhibition, and verbal learning/memory.
The researchers also measured changes in psychological stress response, mood changes, subjective working memory, plasma cortisol levels, and safety and tolerability as secondary results, using a questionnaire. Supplementation was associated with improvements in handling nervousness, irritability, and mood swings, and no safety concerns or adverse events were reported.
Stadice is standardized to 30% mangiferin, and is the first enriched mangiferin extract on the market, according to AIDP, the distributor of Stadice. Its enhanced solubility in lower pH conditions improves its bioavailability compared to other mangiferin extracts, the company added.
“This study is significant as it targets a younger demographic and the growing world of e-gaming,” said Mark Thurston, president of AIDP. “It also is a food-derived, natural product which is trending with consumers.”
