A new clinical study in HealthMed Journal found that a keratin ingredient marketed by AIDP as Keragen-IV was linked to improvements in measured skin structure, hair structure, and hair loss. The ingredient was studied in a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled study on 65 women between 45 and 60 years old, who had healthy skin and damaged or stressed hair, over a period of 60 days.
Keragen-IV is a solubilized keratin in a digestible powder form for beauty from within products. The alpha-keratin structure in the ingredient source shares homology with the keratin naturally present in human hair. It is also evidenced to enhance hair follicle and nail strength and reduces hair loss, by boosting the production of collagens IV and VII between the dermal and epidermal layers, leading to improved skin elasticity and reduced wrinkles. The ingredient is vegetarian certified and sustainably sourced from New Zealand sheep’s wool.
“This study verifies Keragen-IV’s role in hair anchoring which is a concern for many women experiencing hair loss due to hormonal changes or stress. It also indicated Keragen-IV’s role in skin elasticity which can deteriorate as one ages,” said Jennifer Gu, PhD, VP of research and development at AIDP and principal investigator of the study.
