GoMacro, a plant-based protein and nutrition bar company, has expanded its partnership with Terracycle to offer consumers in Canada a free, easy way to recycle their MacroBar wrappers.
While most flexible food wrappers are considered difficult to recycle because they’re made of multiple layers of different materials, the GoMacro MacroBar recycling program offers a way to recycle wrappers that aren’t typically accepted through curbside recycling services.
“When it comes to helping the environment, it’s crucial that we do everything we possibly can to be a part of the solution, not the problem. This is why our recycling initiatives mean so much to everyone here at GoMacro,” said Jola Sonkin, co-founder and CEO of GoMacro. “We’re excited to partner with TerraCycle as we continue to help educate consumers about the impact they can make by reducing waste.”
Consumers can visit TerraCycle’s MacroBar Wrapper Free Recycling Program webpage and mail empty wrappers using the prepaid shipping label. Once collected, MacroBar wrappers are cleaned and separated by material type. The materials are recycled into raw formats that manufacturers can use to make new products. Participants can earn rewards for every shipment sent in through TerraCycle, which can be redeemed as a donation to a school, nonprofit, or charity of their choice.
GoMacro aims to sustainably source high-quality ingredients through renewable energy, and reduce its overall waste. The company has built a 100% renewable energy-powered manufacturing facility, has purchased carbon credits to offset its emissions, and only uses 100% recyclable and compostable packaging.
The recycling program is open to any interested individual, school, office , or community organization.
