The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that it’s investigating illnesses potentially linked to recalled products marketed by Prophet Premium Blends under the brand name Diamond Shruumz. The investigation is being run in collaboration with America’s Poison Control Centers and state and local partners.
Diamond Shruumz’s three product types, including Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies (available in Micro- and Mega/Extreme Dose varieties) were recalled on June 27 after the company determined that the products, marketed online as containing adaptogenic mushrooms, were found to contain muscimol, a toxic compound found in mushrooms of the genus Amanita.
By July 2, FDA reported that there have been 48 illnesses reported from 24 states associated with Diamond Shruumz products, 27 of which led to hospitalizations. There is one potentially associated death under investigation, according to FDA.
“People who became ill after eating Diamond Shruumz-brand products reported a variety of severe symptoms including seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness), agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, nausea, and vomiting,” FDA reported. Products were sold nationwide in retail stores and online, at smoke and vape shops, and by retailers that sell hemp-derived products like cannabidiol (CBD) or delta-8 THC.
Production of all implicated products has been ceased and FDA urged retailers and wholesalers to discontinue use, stop distribution, and quarantine the product immediately and contact a sales representative to initiate a return and refun.
Consumers who’ve purchased Diamond Shruumz products are urged to stop using the product, destroy it, and contact Prophet Premium Blends at (209) 314-0881 or by email at info@diamondshruumz.com to initiate the refund. Anyone who has fallen ill after using these products should contact a health care provider or a poison control center at 1 (800) 222-1222.
