At Vitafoods Europe, Nexira placed special emphasis on two botanical ingredients evidenced to support metabolic health outcomes.
The company introduced a new organic, carbon-neutral prebiotic product called Inavea, which is a combination of cinnamon and acacia extracts formulated to support blood sugar management.
Meanwhile, the company also showcased results from a newly-published study on VinOgrape Plus, which evidenced the role of the grape extract in beneficially modulating the gut microbiome.
Inavea Cinnamon and Acacia
Inavea is a combination of extracts of cinnamon and acacia fiber, standardized to contain 25% polyphenols. The ingredient is associated with changes in the gut microbiome which lead to significant increases in the production of short-chain fatty acids like propionate and an enrichment of healthy bacteria like Parabacteroides distasonis.
Both propionate and P. distanosis are considered biomarkers of good metabolic health. An in vivo study suggested that cinnamon and acacia may work synergistically to modulate glycemic and insulinemic response.
VinOgrape Plus Study
A new study on VinOgrape Plus, a grape extract which was launched in 2023, found that the antioxidant-rich ingredient had a prebiotic effect and modulated the gut microbiome. Among other changes, the extract increased the abundance of Akkermansia muciniphila, suggesting a potential role in metabolic disorder due to the benefits conferred by this bacterial strain.
The new study results, which await publication, also provide evidence that also associate the ingredient with increased acetate production and an improvement in diversity index of the gut microbiome.
